Valse is een (uiteraard) in driekwart maat geschreven stuk met dansant karakter. Kenmerk van de wals is de begeleidingsfiguur met een zwaardere eerste tel ( de basnoot) gevolgd door twee lichtere tellen ( akkoord). Het stuk ontwikkelt zich van Frans-impressionistisch tot Jazzy om daarna weer terug te keren bij Satie. De fluitmelodie beweegt zich vrij boven de begeleidende pianopartij.
